The Rathcoola Residency

1) The residency will be for twenty-five weeks commencing July 1st each year. From July 1st 2007 the successful applicant will be a New Zealand writer.

2) Residents will be accommodated at Rathcoola, in Donoughmore, County Cork
in a small one bedroomed cottage. Linen will be provided.

3) Residents will receive as a stipend $A20000, in $A10000 instalments, paid directly into either their Australian or New Zealand bank account.

4) A direct return economy airfare will be paid to the resident by the Trust on receipt of flight booking and insurance confirmation.

5) Telephone and internet access is at the artist’s own expense.

6/ Residents will be expected to be in residence at Rathcoola for at least twenty-two of the twenty-five weeks (weekends notwithstanding).

7/ At the conclusion of the residency, for the benefit and interest of future residents and visitors, the resident will be expected to donate a work created at Rathcoola to the Trust. In the case of a sculptor, this might be a site specific work or, in the case of a poet, a sequence of poems. Artists using expensive materials will not be expected to donate work beyond an agreed value. The intellectual property (and publication) rights will remain with the creator of the work. The Trust may wish to use the work for publicity purposes but for any other use there will be negotiation with the writer or artist.

8/ Upon publication or exhibition of any work created during the period of residence, the writer or artist will acknowledge The Rathcoola Residency.

9/ The Trust would prefer the successful applicants not to have received any other financial support for the work that will be undertaken at Rathcoola.

10/ The Trust hopes the resident will make a contribution to the local community. This might be in the form of taking an occasional workshop. An arts organisation in Cork may liaise with the resident about this possibility.

11/ The successful applicant will look after his or her own tax requirements and insurance, and make suitable visa arrangements prior to departure.

12/ At the conclusion of the residency, and no later than a month after departure, the resident will provide a written report. This should include an evaluation of work accomplished during the residency and any constructive observations that may be useful for the Trust to know and consider in relation to future residents.
